Former world welterweight champion Shawn Porter made no mistake in naming the hardest hitting opponent he ever shared a ring with.
‘Showtime’ is often credited with being one of the best welterweights of his generation, winning a version of the world championship on two separate occasions along the way.
Porter captured world honours for the first time in December of 2013, defeating fellow countryman Devon Alexander via unanimous decision to claim the IBF world welterweight crown at the Barclays Center in New York City.
After suffering close defeats to Kell Brook and Keith Thurman, Porter returned to the top of the welterweight tree in September 2018 when he produced a career-best win over Danny Garcia to capture the vacant WBC world welterweight title.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Porter spoke highly of former rival Terence Crawford as he claims ‘Bud’ was the biggest puncher he faced throughout his tenure.
“I like to call them thumpers, fighters that punch hard. The three that really thumped me, Danny Garcia, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. I can’t put them in order but the two fighters who put me down Errol Spence and Terence Crawford. It has to be Crawford because he stopped me.”
Crawford proved to be too much for Porter when their paths crossed in November 2021, stopping ‘Showtime’ in the 10th round of what would prove to be the 36th and final bout of Porter’s professional career at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As for Crawford, he would go on to become a three-division undisputed champion, retiring after his iconic win over Canelo Alvarez in September 2025.
