Saquon Barkley broke his silence on Jalen Hurts' health scare, sending a heartfelt message of support after it was confirmed that the Eagles quarterback will miss the rest of the season due to blood clots. Amid a difficult 2026 campaign for the Philadelphia Eagles, Barkley expressed full confidence that his teammate will come back stronger.
Barkley, now in his third season with Philadelphia after entering the NFL in 2018, has established himself as one of the league's premier running backs and played a pivotal role in the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX championship.
However, the star running back has not matched the production of his outstanding 2024 season. Injuries have also limited him this year, forcing him to miss multiple games and adding to Philadelphia's offensive struggles.
Things became even more challenging when Hurts was diagnosed with blood clots that spread from his calf to his lungs, a condition that ended his season prematurely.
Despite the devastating news, Barkley struck an optimistic tone while speaking to reporters on Thursday, expressing unwavering faith in Hurts' ability to overcome the setback
"Knowing Jalen, this is just a little setback. He’s going to come back better from it. It’s probably hard to see that right now, but I know the type of person Jalen is and I truly believe in that," Barkley said.
Hurts' absence leaves the Eagles facing one of their biggest challenges in recent years. Without their franchise quarterback, Philadelphia must quickly find a way to stay competitive if it hopes to keep its playoff aspirations alive.
The Eagles enter this stretch of the season with a 2-4 record, sitting second in the NFC East, ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders, but trailing the New York Giants.
In the overall NFC standings, Philadelphia sits 11th, ahead of Dallas and the Arizona Cardinals, but behind teams such as the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.
The Eagles will look to get their season back on track when they host the Cowboys in Week 7 on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET, and the rivalry matchup could prove pivotal in determining whether Philadelphia can keep its postseason hopes alive without Hurts.
