The Minnesota Timberwolves have spent the early part of the season learning to win without Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo. On Monday against Milwaukee, they had to do it without one of their most productive bench pieces, too.
Terrence Shannon Jr sat out that 112-100 win with a left hip contusion. It was the first game he had missed this season. On Tuesday, the Wolves listed TSJ as questionable again, ahead of tonight’s game in Houston.
Unfortunately, his status was changed this afternoon, and not for the better. When the Timberwolves PR account updated the report, Shannon Jr went from questionable to out, joining Edwards and DiVincenzo for a second straight game.
Tip-off against the Rockets is set for 7:30 p.m. CT. Minnesota is 5-3 on the season, going 4-3 with Shannon in the lineup and 1-0 without him. Trey Lyles and Jaylen Clark each played 21 minutes against the Bucks to help cover the minutes he left behind, and both played pretty well.
Terrence Shannon Jr has come off the bench in all seven games he has played for Minnesota this season, but his role continues to grow. So far in 2026-27, TSJ is averaging 12.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 22.0 minutes per game. He is also shooting 39.4% from three (13-of-33).
That is a big jump from last year’s averages of 5.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 12.5 minutes per game (43 games). His best night so far this season came Oct. 28 against Golden State, when Shannon Jr scored a season-high 19 points.
The Wolves have not given a timeline for his return, so all eyes will be on the status report again after this game.
