Sheffield Wednesday make the short trip to Doncaster Rovers, looking to make amends after their 2-0 defeat to Notts County midweek.
The Owls failed to have a single shot on target against the Magpies, something that hasn’t eased the pressure on Henrik Pedersen.
Donny will be a tough test and likely take optimism from the fact that Wednesday lost in such a poor manner midweek. They come into the game on the back of two defeats and are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
We have the latest Sheffield Wednesday team news, our predicted 11 and full-time result.
Pedersen will be without Jamal Lowe and Callum Slattery for the South Yorkshire derby. Lowe received a straight red for a bad tackle, and Slattery picked up his fifth yellow card, which means he will be out for one game.
Di’Shon Bernard came off injured on Tuesday night, but HP reassured fans:
“With Dish we hope and believe he can train next week again. The news is positive.
“There was concern in the whole squad, he was back and playing well so it was a sad moment.
“But we are happy there is nothing bad, and we expect him on the pitch next week.”
The other centre back who started midweek, Liam Cooper, could also be missing. Pedersen said a decision will be made on Saturday.
Left-winger Louie Barry is continuing his recovery, with Pedersen saying:
“Louie has trained really well and did some finishing today too, so it is going in the right direction for him.”
Another forward is nearing their return as well. Young attacker George Brown is back in sessions with the squad, but he won’t be in the matchday squad for a little longer.
Other pieces of injury news from HP include:
4-2-3-1: Maynard-Brewer; Valery, Swinkels, Cooper, Lowe; Mitchell, Heskey; Morrison, Bannan, Gray; Keillor-Dunn.
A couple of changes will be needed due to injuries and suspensions. Swinkels and Cooper should be the centre-half combo, but if Cooper isn’t fit, then shifting Max Lowe to centre back and putting Reece James at LB makes sense.
With Slattery and J Lowe out, HP has the chance to mix it up a little. DKD has looked good; moving him slightly forward isn’t a bad thing, with Barry Bannan in behind him creating chances.
In the centre of the park, it would be good to see the pairing of Billy Mitchell and Jaden Heskey from the start. The duo could make a good combination and help Wednesday dominate in the middle.
It will be good to see Kieran Morrison from the start again. He’s found himself on the bench in recent weeks but always looks a threat when he comes on.
Doncaster Rovers 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday
Scorers: DKD & Morrison.
