Jordan Henderson laughed when Liverpool fans booed him during the game against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup while appearing to troll Reds fans.
The Liverpool legend is playing against his former club for the first time since making the move from Brentford to Chelsea this summer. Some fans have booed the former Reds captain, while some have given him a warm reception. This came after Henderson received applause the last time he faced them at Anfield when he played for Brentford.
Henderson spent 12 years at Liverpool, where the club ranked him as its 25th-greatest-ever player this past summer, before leaving in 2023 to join the Saudi Pro League.
And while some booed Henderson on Wednesday, the 35-year-old appeared to enjoy himself.
After Ryan Gravenberch brought down Moises Caicedo in the box with a wild tackle, Chelsea players huddled while deciding who would take the penalty.
Out of nowhere, Henderson grabbed the ball from a teammate before walking all the way to the penalty spot.
With the ball in his hands, it appeared like he would be set to take the spot kick as fans began to boo him.
The camera then picked up Henderson smiling and laughing as he faked out the fans and everyone watching, giving the ball to Morgan Rogers to take the spot kick.
One fan said on social media: "The way Henderson is smiling like a villain as they boo him is sending me man," as another said: "lol at Henderson laughing at Anfield for boo'ing him."
While a third wrote: "Henderson is such a troll lol. Chelsea have a pen, the Liverpool fans been whistling him all game and he wanna take the pen."
Rogers sent Giorgi Mamardashvili the wrong way to open the scoring, before Wesley Fofana handled a corner in the box when up against Virgil van Dijk for a penalty.
Cody Gakpo is the Reds' penalty taker with Dominik Szoboszlai not on the field, as he fired past Mike Penders to quickly draw the Reds level.
Liverpool made seven changes in the game, with James McConnell getting a start in attacking midfield.
Teenage stars Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni continued to impress with a solid first-half performance, both looking to have breakout seasons in securing their spots as regular first-team players.
