Pedro Porro signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, before going on to win the World Cup with Spain. He was hoping to transform his World Cup form into the Premier League; unfortunately, the right-back has endured a stop-start campaign due to muscle problems.
The 27-year-old has already missed a few games after suffering a hamstring injury in the 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa before the September international break. However, it has now emerged that Porro is seriously considering an exit from White Hart Lane amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid. The defender is very open to returning to his homeland to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid and would prefer to be playing at the very highest level at the prime stages of his career.
Spurs would not be keen to let Porro leave, especially with him penning a contract extension, but a big offer from the Spanish giants may force their hand. And it looks like the Lilywhites have identified the Spanish international’s replacement.
According to a report from Flashscore, Tottenham are closely monitoring the situation of Malo Gusto at Chelsea. Liverpool are also interested in the full-back and are keeping tabs ahead of the winter transfer window.
Chelsea want to sign a new right-back in the January transfer window. This has put the future of Malo Gusto in the air, with the Frenchman already having lost his starting berth under new manager Xabi Alonso. He has featured in only five Premier League games, with the likes of Pedro Neto, Pep Chavarria, Marco Palestra and Jorrel Hato preferred ahead of the 23-year-old as the wing-backs.
The France international remains under contract until 2030, but his limited role so far this season has raised questions over his long-term place in Xabi Alonso’s squad. The report adds that there is a growing feeling that an exit in either of the two 2027 transfer windows is a realistic possibility if the right conditions emerge. PSG, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are all assessing Gusto’s situation too.
There is no pressure on the Blues to sell the full-back, particularly in the winter transfer window. Despite his limited involvement this season, the management considers Gusto an important part of their project and are not actively forcing him towards the exit.
Tottenham can actually tempt Gusto with the promise of regular game time and an exciting project under De Zerbi to develop his game. A versatile full-back like the Frenchman will be a smart fit in De Zerbi’s fluid system, whilst being a long-term replacement for Porro.
However, it will be intriguing to see whether the former Lyon man would be interested in swapping Chelsea for Tottenham. Also, the Pensioners’ valuation of Gusto has to be reasonable to bring the Lilywhites to the negotiating table.
