Despite the narrow scoreline, Watford were, for at least half of the game, not in the match at all.
In the first half, the Hornets failed to muster a single shot, let alone any on target, and despite an improved second half, Wolves' shot-stopper, Jose Sa, did not have to make a single save.
Speaking after the game, Dionisi conceded that his side's courage in the first half was nowhere near the level he had hoped to see.
“I’m not happy with the first half," the Italian admitted, "Because we needed courage with the ball, and in the first half, my team played without courage, which makes it difficult, because with the second pass, you lose the ball.
“Today, the opposition was a big team, who played in the Premier League last season, and there is a difference between them and us.
"It’s not easy for our team to play against a big team. But the result was 1-0. We created some situations in the second half, and we worked for a positive result, but when you play without courage, it’s difficult."
Despite it not changing the result, Dionisi did recognise the improvement from his side in the second half, against strong opposition.
“The second half was different, because we played with courage. Wolves are good with the ball, but I liked the second half from my team.”
The Watford head coach also called attention to the young nature of his side and insisted that belief is imperative for them to grow.
“I know my team," he said. "It was difficult for everyone, because my team is young. It’s important to believe, it’s important to speak about this and to grow, because next week there will be another match.”
