St Mirren 2-0 Dundee: Calvin Ramsay and Eseosa Sule fire Buddies to victory

St Mirren ended a run of five straight defeats as goals from Calvin Ramsay and Eseosa Sule secured a 2-1 win over Dundee.

Wing-back Ramsay fired Saints ahead in the 20th minute with his first goal since joining the club on loan in the summer.

Sule doubled the lead for the Buddies in the 57th minute to give his side a real grip of the game.

Dundee pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute through Bradley Fink after a decent spell of pressure but the visitors could not find an equaliser.

St Mirren were first to threaten as the wintry conditions played a role in the early stages. Ismeal Kabia unleashed a shot from the edge of the box, but it was held by Dundee goalkeeper Owen Goodman.

The home side made the breakthrough when Sule broke down the righ before playing the ball across goal into the path of Ramsay, whose shot trickled over the line with the block from Goodman unable to keep it out.

The Saints loanee almost doubled his tally when he rose to meet a free-kick from the left. His header fell straight into the arms of Goodman, who then spilled the ball before it was scrambled clear.

Sule turned scorer in the second-half to give St Mirren full command of the match. A cross from Killian Phillips was met by the head of the attacker on the edge of the six-yard box to double the home side's lead.

Dundee pushed to get a foothold back in the game with Ashley Hay bulleting a header narrowly wide from close range.

The visitors did eventually pull a goal back through Fink. St Mirren keeper Jacob Chapman saved the initial shot only for the Dundee striker to knock the ball home at the second attempt.

The away side pushed for an equaliser in the latter stages, but the Buddies held on to claim all three points, much to the delight of a delirious but sodden home crowd.

What the managers said...

St Mirren manager Craig McLeish:

"I'm delighted for the group. They probably needed something like that.

"It's easy for me to keep saying the same messages and keep talking to them about their confidence and belief and what we're trying to do, but when you go on a run like we've been on, it can be difficult for the players at times.

"We had one really good run, we've had a poor run, hopefully that's us coming out of it now as well."

Dundee boss Steven Pressley:

"In the first half we showed a lot of bravery in possession, in terms of our build-up and in controlling the game, but we didn't ask enough questions of them defensively.

"We spoke prior to the game about that particular fact: that we must ask questions of them defensively in a variety of ways. We didn't ask enough of them.

"Credit to St Mirren. They've gone through a difficult period, and they showed a lot of resilience today."
