Forest lose 2-0 to Brentford… what are your thoughts on that and Oliver Glasner now…
Forest’s head coach hinted at changes for the next game after this debacle, and there is one player who simply has to come under fire after the defeat to Brentford.
Putting Ryan Yates on the pitch at half-time was probably a mistake from Glasner’s point of view, but taking Schlager off spoke volumes.
Glasner signed Schlager on a free transfer after his exit from RB Leipzig in the summer, and he’s largely been a mainstay since arriving at the City Ground.
Schlager’s position in the team must now come under serious scrutiny. With the likes of Nicolas Dominguez and Ibrahim Sangare waiting in the wings, it’s pretty naive to continue picking a player who offers very little.
Schlager is largely in the team to screen James McAtee and allow him the freedom to go forward when Forest attack. However, in 45 minutes yesterday, the Austrian didn’t register a single defensive contribution and proved largely ineffective.
Schlager’s passing was also abysmal throughout, with the 56.3% of passes he completed the worst of any Forest player other than Matz Sels.
Schlager has had a good run in the team, but Sangare and Dominguez have proven that they can play in successful teams at this level and Glasner must now act.
Forest have to shake things up a bit to arrest their dreadful run of form. Right now, the Reds are sleepwalking towards relegation, and something has to give.
