The Chicago Bears made a splash when they traded for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, sending a pair of first-round picks to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for one of the NFL's best defenders.
The addition of Simmons immediately upgrades Dennis Allen's defense, and it's the kind of move that makes Chicago Super Bowl contenders both this season and the next several years. But while the Bears parted ways with significant draft capital to add a game-wrecker to their defensive line, it sounds like they might not be done yet.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bears were "in on DeForest Buckner" and "looking at edges, probably still looking at edges." Rapoport added: "Ryan Poles has been very, very active."
One of the names that's been linked to Chicago in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline is edge rusher Khalil Mack, who the Bears previously traded for back in 2018, and he went on to have a huge impact on the defense. There's speculation that it could cost a fourth- or fifth-round pick for Mack, should the Los Angeles Chargers choose to part with him. Could we see general manager Ryan Poles make another splash along the defensive line?
While it hasn't been discussed nationally, cornerback is also a big need for the Bears with rookie Malik Muhammad banged up and Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson both struggling this season.
