LeBron James found an unusual way to turn an accidental collision into one of the most entertaining moments of the Philadelphia 76ers' win over the Chicago Bulls.
LeBron chased a loose ball during Monday's game when his momentum carried him beyond the baseline and into the courtside seats.
He collided with a fan, spilling his drink in the process. However, James did not simply apologize and return to the court.
Instead, He picked up the cup and took a quick sip before getting back into the action.
James provided a hilarious explanation after the 126-107 victory.
“I spilled some of his wine. I crashed into him, spilled some of his wine. So I wanted to see if it was worth it on my arm and how good it was. It was all right.”
The fan was identified as Troy Clemons, a longtime 76ers season-ticket holder. ESPN reporter Kris Rhim caught up with him after the incident to hear his side of the story.
Clemons revealed that James had apologized immediately after the collision. Despite losing his drink, he was not particularly bothered by the exchange.
“He grabbed me, he said, ‘My bad, my drink spilled everywhere.’ I'm just glad for him to be here,” Clemons said.
When asked how he felt about the unusual interaction, Clemons made it clear that he was not interested in keeping the cup as a souvenir.
“He's LeBron, but at the end of the day… I just got a fresh drink.”
James finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The 76ers improved to 7-1, strengthening their early position in the Eastern Conference.
