Can Movsar Evloev end Alexander Volkanovski’s second reign as featherweight champion? Find out below
In the main event of UFC 333 tonight, Alexander Volkanovski faces an intriguing test as he bids to solve the Movsar Evloev puzzle.
Having become a two-time featherweight champion last year, Volkanovski is aiming to keep his second title reign alive, but to do so, the ageing great must do what no fighter has done: beat the 20-0 Evloev.
The co-main event in Abu Dhabi also sees gold up for grabs, as Petr Yan fights Merab Dvalishvili for the third time.
In December, Yan produced a masterclass to take the bantamweight belt from Dvalishvili, avenging a 2023 loss to the “Machine”. Tonight’s clash should therefore settle their rivalry once and for all...
We move up to 185lb now, where Abus Magomedov and Cam Rowston will square off.

Grant Dawson def. Nurullo Aliev via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27)
Alex Pattle24 October 2026 17:42
Aliev actually sat on the canvas between rounds two and three, and now he’s lying on his side – post-fight – pointing to his thigh, it seems.
Alex Pattle24 October 2026 17:39
Round three
Aliev throws a jab then misses with a slow, looping left hook. Dawson kicks low, and does so well. He then shoots for a single-leg, before switching to a back body lock.
The pair separate and Dawson lands a clean left hook. He soon gets Aliev down again, with two minutes to go, and he’s in the Tajik’s closed guard.
Aliev needs something REALLY special to get the win now!
Alex Pattle24 October 2026 17:37
Round two
Dawson shoots again, but he has trouble clearing Aliev’s legs as the Tajik sits on the mat.
Aliev gets free, and back on the feet he lands a couple of clean shots. But Dawson fires back well, too! His shots are wider than Aliev’s, but they’re landing.
Dawson again has Aliev down but this time he wraps up the legs, Khabib style.
He’s holding Aliev down and has been doing so for a while. The first round might’ve been tight (before Aliev’s docked point), but this has been Dawson’s for sure.
Aliev is able to stand late on, and another fun striking exchange follows.
Alex Pattle24 October 2026 17:31
Round one
Back under way, and Aliev catches Dawson on the end of a high kick.
Both men look quite sloppy in the striking exchanges, and a grappling spell ensues.
Aliev shoots a failed takedown against the fence, and it’s eventually Dawson who gets down Aliev and tries a D’Arce choke in the final seconds – to no avail.
Alex Pattle24 October 2026 17:27
Round one
Dawson stands orthodox; Aliev is southpaw. Aliev backs up Dawson early. The American tries a single-leg that has Aliev looking a bit panicked, but Aliev quickly comes forward with a flurry of fists, overwhelming Dawson against the fence!
Dawson looks to shoot for a takedown again, and a scramble ensues. Aliev ends up getting ahold of Dawson and hauling him down. He’s in Dawson’s closed guard briefly, but the pair soon return to the feet.
Good overhand right from Aliev. Both men slip while throwing kicks, Aliev first then Dawson.
Aliev capitalises on Dawson’s fall with hammer fists, but the action is paused! They were illegal shots to the back of the head, and he’s docked a point...

Okay, Tajikistan’s Nurullo Aliev emerges for his lightweight title with Grant Dawson, followed by the American himself.

Just 14 months ago, Lone’er Kavanagh was coming off the worst night of his career.
The British UFC flyweight, a 26-year-old prospect at the time, had been knocked out by Charles Johnson - a fighter with a career-high ranking of No 14 (and one of the most out-there haircuts in the fight game) - simultaneously stripping him of his undefeated record and dashing his momentum. “Obviously it was hard,” he told The Independent. “Losing is never fun.”
Jump to present day and Kavanagh’s one career loss is now two. But instead of being resigned as a faltering prospect, he finds himself in the upper echelons of the flyweight division, maybe a couple fights away from a title shot as he prepares for his bout with dangerous striker Ramazonbek Temirov at UFC 333 tonight.
Exclusive interview:
London flyweight Kavanagh tells Will Castle about the ‘blessing’ that sparked his rapid recovery after his first career loss as he returns to action at UFC 333

For us, and the UFC itself, Volkanovski is a former p4p No 1.
Currently, he sits at No 5 for The Independent and No 2 for the UFC, whose voting is done by a panel of media members.
Yes, Volk is 3-3 in his last six fights, but his prior achievements count for a lot. He was on a 10-year, 22-fight win streak before that patchy recent record, featuring five successful title defences.
His best results include a trio of points wins over Max Holloway (though one of those was controversial to many fans) and a decision victory over the great Jose Aldo.
He has also stopped Yair Rodriguez and fan favourite Chan Sung Jung, and outpointed Brian Ortega and Chad Mendes.

For all the focus on jabs, elbows, knees and throws, sometimes all it takes is a little push in MMA. Especially when you’re on the precipice.
That’s where Volkanovski finds himself, as much as in Abu Dhabi and at the Etihad Arena. People can talk down the physical threat of Evloev – and they have – based on the Russian’s relative lack of finishes, but Volkanovski stands on the edge of a sheer drop.
It is a long way down, even for the man who walks out to “Down Under”. And this is perhaps the greatest threat to the Australian’s second reign as UFC featherweight champion, at 38 years old.
Volkanovski has been one of the finest fighters of a generation, and is arguably the greatest featherweight of all time (even if the Jose Aldo debate may never end), but there exists a trend that even the sacred few atop the MMA mountain have been able to outfight or outthink...

Comment: An aged Volkanovski will be tested by an old training partner, the unbeaten Movsar Evloev, in their featherweight title clash
Alex Pattle24 October 2026 15:59
“I’m not one to talk, I’m not one to talk,” Volkanovski told Red Corner MMA, when asked about his past sparring sessions with Evloev.
“Again, it was a long, long time ago. He was only young, but yeah, I’ll leave it at that.”
When asked whether he could have foreseen Evloev becoming a UFC title challenger, the Aussie said: “Well, look, I didn’t know. I think he was the M1 Global... they had a promotion, he was the champion then.
“But again, yeah, he was young. We’re both much better; he’s much better than back then, so you can’t go by how that training session went. I’m expecting a much tougher Movsar, a much more well-rounded, fit Movsar.”
