James Tavernier, who made a move to Israel after 11 years at Ibrox, has been criticised by ex-Hapoel Tel Aviv player Maor Kandil.
The former Rangers skipper, who joined forces with former teammate Kenny Miller at Maccabi Tel Aviv, is currently the highest-paid player in Israel.
Tavernier scored his first goal for the club last month.
Despite this, Kandil, now a TV pundit, criticised Tavernier's performances so far.
The full-back turned 35 on Saturday.
Kandil said: "This is an opinion that people are afraid to express, but James Tavernier is overrated.
"They gave him a build-up here when he signed.
"But I don't see him taking on players one-on-one, I haven't seen a key pass from him, I haven't seen him make an important tackle, I haven't seen him make an assist.
"So what does he bring to the team? He's nothing special.
"Sorry, but I am just not seeing enough from Tavernier at the moment."
Kandil also suggested that Maccabi Tel Aviv should have signed Israel captain Eli Dasa instead.
