Lamar Jackson’s return will have to wait another week.
The Baltimore Ravens ruled their quarterback out Saturday for Sunday’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals because of an ankle injury. Tyler Huntley will make his third consecutive start as Baltimore attempts to rebound from last week’s loss at Cleveland.
Jackson was initially listed as questionable after being limited in all three practices this week. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Jackson took the majority of first-team repetitions Friday, but that progress ultimately did not translate into availability.
Jackson identified the injury as a high ankle sprain Friday. He has been sidelined since leaving Baltimore’s Oct. 4 victory over Tennessee at halftime, missing the subsequent games against Atlanta and Cleveland.
Huntley has gone 1-1 in those starts. He completed 24 of 32 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns in the overtime win over Atlanta, and he added the winning rushing touchdown. Against Cleveland, he finished 19 of 31 for 165 yards and a touchdown as Baltimore went scoreless over the final three quarters of a 13-10 defeat.
Through three appearances this season, Huntley has completed 70.8% of his passes for 429 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, posting a 99.8 passer rating. He has added 64 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Ravens enter Sunday at 4-2 against a rested Cincinnati team coming off its bye. With Jackson unavailable, Baltimore needs Huntley and the supporting cast to turn promising possessions into sustained production and avoid a second consecutive divisional loss.
