Delhi state cricket team skipper Ayush Badoni scripts history in the ongoing 2026-27 Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand and joins Delhi stalwarts Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Badoni levelled the Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli and the India National Cricket Team head coach Gambhir by scoring a double hundred against Jharkhand. It was Badoni's second double hundred in two consecutive matches.
The double hundred came at a crucial time when Delhi is in the hunt for their first win in the ongoing Ranji Trophy campaign. So far in the tournament, they have had a defeat and a draw before facing the Jharkhand state cricket team at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Ayush Badoni scored an unbeaten 210 off 228 deliveries before declaring the innings at 515. In the previous match, which was against Gujarat, Badoni registered 217. Among the very few batters in First-Class cricket, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir got two back-to-back half-centuries for Delhi in their respective innings. The Delhi captain is the latest to join the elite group of players. According to the stats, Badoni has become the 21st Indian batter to achieve the illustrious feat.
Before Badoni, during the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, Snehal Kauthankar scripted history by doing the same. Kauthankar became the first-ever batter, representing Goa, to score two consecutive double centuries in two back-to-back matches.
The Delhi cricket team is currently in the leading position against Jharkhand after the knocks of Ayush Badoni and Sumit Mathur. Badoni and Mathur stitched a 334-run partnership to take the team to the pole position against Jharkhand. Sumit Mathur was batting on an unbeaten 150 off 253 deliveries when Badoni-led Delhi declared their innings.
At the end of Day 2, Delhi is leading the match by 384 runs. Jharkhand has already lost their four key batters and will start Day 3 with Utkarsh Singh and Shubh Sharma. Ayush Badoni has taken wickets as well with his part-time bowling skills.
Former Indian batter Priyank Panchal praised the effort made by Badoni in this match against Jharkhand. Panchal observed that during the unbeaten 210-run knock off 228 balls, Badoni was under control against both pacers and spinners.
Panchal in his post highlighted the fact that continued good batting can open all doors for Badoni to enter the Indian national cricket team. Recently, Devdutt Padikkal played a few Tests for India and was exceptional against Sri Lanka. Padikkal was selected in the national side based on his domestic batting form.
"Ayush Badoni with a 210 against Jharkhand. I’m glad that quality middle-order batters, who tackle spin and pace equally well, are emerging from the ranks in Ranji cricket lately," former cricketer Priyank Panchal wrote this on Tuesday evening.
"Rewarding such players always bears good results for the national team, as you can see in the case of Devdutt Padikkal already," he added further in the 'X' post.
