Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany collapsed after the team's training session Friday, Oct. 23 and was rushed to the hospital, according to multiple reports from Germany.
An air ambulance helicopter was sent to the team's training ground, but Sky Germany reported that the Belgian manager was in stable condition.
Bild reported that Kompany led first-team training and then went to watch the team's under-23 side, where he collapsed. A helicopter was dispatched at 3:54 p.m. local time to the team's Säbener Straße training ground.
Kompany was suffering from a viral infection over the weekend, giving his team talk at halftime of a 6-1 win over RB Leipzig sitting down and opting out of the post-match media obligations.
He missed the team's pre-match press conference ahead of a midweek Champions League match against Arsenal, but managed to coach the game on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
"As a coach, you always want to do everything and accomplish everything," Kompany said in his post-match news conference after the Arsenal match. "I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn't listen to my body, and then at some point my body said: Stop now!”
The 40-year-old Kompany arrived at Bayern after coaching stints with Anderlecht in his native Belgium and Burnley. He was a center back in his playing days, suiting up for Manchester City more than 260 times and representing the Belgium national team on 89 occasions.
