‘He's Definitely Special,’ ‘The 2 Most Dynamic QBs’ — NFL Legend Terrell Owens Compares Caleb Williams to Patrick Mahomes After Bears’ Resurgence

It appears Caleb Williams is wasting no time elevating himself into the conversation among the league’s best. The face of the Chicago Bears franchise has led the team to a 5-2 record with their latest win, beating the New England Patriots 30-24 on Thursday night to secure their fourth win in five games.

After returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for three games, Williams has been playing lights out. His recent performance has also drawn praise from Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, who made a bold comparison between the Bears QB and Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes.

Terrell Owens Explains Why Caleb Williams Is Special

Williams threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns while recording a 116.7 passer rating in Thursday’s game against New England.

Williams delivered an equally impressive performance in Chicago’s 31-23 victory over Atlanta, completing 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions while posting a 111.2 passer rating. He also completed 83.3% of his passes in the Atlanta game, setting a Bears franchise record for completion percentage in a game among quarterbacks attempting at least 30 passes.

With these performances, Williams became the first Bears quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in consecutive games since Mitch Trubisky accomplished the feat across three straight games eight years ago.

This resurgence has caught the attention of Owens, who believes Williams is beginning to prove why Chicago selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While addressing Williams’ habit of painting his fingernails, Owens made it clear that the QB’s on-field ability matters far more than his personal style.

“You already know. Number one. Paint my nail with this lip,” Owens said in his “Get TO The Point” podcast on Tuesday. “ This dude right here. Hey, Caleb, I paint my nails every weekend. Williams. The man, the Chicago Bears, these guys are balling. I don’t know what else to say about him. All I know is right now, he’s definitely special. This is his second week over 300 yards passing.

“Painting nails or no painting nails, you cannot deny this guy’s ability and his talent. I think this is why they drafted him. I think at the end of last season, going into the playoffs, again, they should have gone further. Now you’re starting to see this guy really emerge. I think the game is starting to slow down.”

Williams remains a team player, crediting his teammates rather than taking credit for his performance against New England. He explained after the win that his success came from delivering accurate passes while benefiting from the offensive line’s protection and his receivers’ blocking, describing those contributions as part of the team’s identity.

Williams’ performances have also boosted his standing in PFN’s QB Impact Metric, where he currently sits at No. 5 with an 84.1 grade.

However, Owens did not limit his praise to Williams’ recent statistical achievements, placing the Bears star alongside Mahomes when discussing the NFL’s most dynamic players at the position.

“When you talk about dynamic quarterbacks, between him and Patrick Mahomes, these are the two most dynamic quarterbacks at that position,” Owens added.

Matching Mahomes’ overall achievements remains a much bigger challenge, but Williams’ performances in the last two games suggest that his development is extending beyond highlight-reel plays. He will now look to maintain his momentum when Chicago faces the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Week 8.
