‘They’re Not Going Anywhere’ — Shannon Sharpe Argues ‘Ravens Should Become Sellers’ Ahead of Trade Deadline After Lamar Jackson’s Injury

Lamar Jackson’s return was supposed to give Baltimore a reason to believe again. One offensive snap later, he was heading off the field with another injury.

By the end of Sunday’s 36–10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Ravens had lost two quarterbacks and their third consecutive game. Shannon Sharpe had seen enough. His recommendation for the trade deadline was blunt, with Baltimore’s attention directed toward next season.

Shannon Sharpe Urges Ravens To Start Selling

Sharpe called for Baltimore to change course after a defeat that dropped the team to 4–4 and brought fresh uncertainty about Jackson’s availability.

“Ravens should become sellers on Tue. They’re not going anywhere. Start the rebuild 4 (for) next Season. This has been a very disappointing (year) and it’s only half over,”Sharpe wrote.

Sharpe did not identify specific players he wanted Baltimore to trade. His post was a broad argument for moving assets and preparing for 2027, reflecting his belief that this team’s chances had slipped away.

The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. ET. Baltimore therefore has another game to play before the cutoff, with Jacksonville visiting Thursday night.

That leaves the Ravens facing an uncomfortable decision. They are still .500, with nine regular-season games remaining. Selling significant pieces would mean giving up resources that could help them recover, while holding everything together would require confidence in an increasingly uncertain quarterback situation.

Sunday supplied very little reassurance.

Jackson had missed three games with an ankle injury before returning against Buffalo. Hislatest injury occurred on Baltimore’s first offensive play, when his throwing hand struck Bills pass rusher Gregory Rousseau during a pass attempt.

Tyler Huntley replaced him, then suffered a toe injury in the second quarter. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano entered for his NFL debut, leaving Baltimore trying to compete with its emergency third quarterback.

The afternoon that began with Jackson back in the lineup ended with the Ravens needing answers about both quarterbacks ahead of Fagnano.

Lamar Jackson’s Surgery Changes Baltimore’s Deadline Outlook

The news became more troubling after the game. Head coach Jesse Minter said Jackson would undergo surgery on his right thumb and be placed on injured reserve, according to theteam’s update.

Asked whether the injury could end Jackson’s season, Minter answered, “potentially.”

That uncertainty gives Sharpe’s argument more weight than the score alone. Baltimore had been waiting for Jackson to return and stabilize an offense struggling without him. Now the organization has to plan for another extended absence, with the possibility of losing him for the rest of the year.

The recent results show how quickly the season has deteriorated. Baltimore stood 4–1 after beating Atlanta in overtime. Losses to Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Buffalo have erased that cushion, with the Ravens scoring 10, 13, and 10 points in those games.

Against Buffalo, Baltimore managed 144 total yards while allowing 426. Fagnano finished 10 of 21 for 91 passing yards and an interception after being pushed into an assignment few would have expected him to receive.

Trading players would bring their own consequences. Any return would have to justify weakening a roster that still has games to win, and Sharpe’s post offered no proposed packages or names to evaluate.

His point was that Baltimore should stop treating this season as an opportunity worth protecting at every cost.

The Ravens, who rank 18th on PFN’s Defense Impact Metric, have until Nov. 10 to decide how much of that assessment they share. Thursday’s game will offer another look at what they can manage without Jackson. It will also arrive with far less time to prepare than Baltimore would want after Sunday’s injuries.
