WNBA Finals Game 7 draws 3.3 million viewers, most in playoff history

The 2026 WNBA season ended with the most-watched playoff game in league history.

The WNBA Finals' first Game 7 — in which the Golden State Valkyries defeated the Atlanta Dream — drew 3.3 million viewers, Versant media announced Tuesday.

The game, which aired on USA Network and CNBC with streaming via Peacock, is second most-watched WNBA game overall since the league’s opening weekend in 1997 – a fitting result as the league used the campaign to commemorate 30 years.

Game 7’s historic audience marked a 128% increase from the 2025 WNBA Finals deciding game, which saw the Las Vegas Aces complete a sweep of the Phoenix Mercury for their third championship in four years.

Versant said this year’s Game 7 was the most-watched program of the day on cable during a slate that also included Saturday college football programming.

Both teams were in pursuit of their franchise’s first league championship. The Valkyries accomplished the feat in just their second year of existence thanks to Finals MVP Gabby Williams’ 30 points. After the Valkyries trailed 30-24 at the half, she scored a WNBA postseason-record 28 second-half points to secure the 68-63 win.

Angel Reese made double-double history in the Finals during her first year with the Dream after being traded by the Chicago Sky. Led by head coach Karl Smesko, Reese Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and the rest of the Dream accomplished the first Finals game win in franchise history during their first appearance in the Finals since 2013.

Joining the league as an expansion team in 2008, the Dream have now lost in the Finals each of the four times they've advanced to the league’s biggest stage.

USA Sports also offered nearly an hour of postgame coverage led by Elle Duncan and Dream owner Renee Montgomery that averaged more than 1 million viewers.

The series reaching seven games was the ideal outcome for USA Network, but the Valkyries had a chance to win the championship in Atlanta during Game 6. That game was moved to 12:30 p.m. ET after the location was changed from Gateway Center to State Farm Arena so more fans could attend. The Valkyries would likely have had to move their trophy presentation to a practice court to accommodate the Atlanta Hawks’ NBA game scheduled for the same day, and their championship-clinching win would’ve been viewed by most in a primetime re-run.

The WNBA Finals will return to ESPN in 2027. USA Network secured WNBA rights as part of NBCUniversal's broader media rights package announced in July 2024, and later finalized an expanded 11-year Versant agreement in September, 2025.
