Michael Carrick has refused to reveal whether he will drop Bruno Fernandes after the Manchester United captain criticised his tactics in an interview this week.
United were handed a brutal 4-1 defeat by Como in midweek as their dismal start to the campaign wears on.
Fernandes got the nod for that match but put in another substandard display and was hooked midway through the second half.
He made no attempt to hide his frustration as he trudged around the pitch and took a seat back on the bench, before taking aim at his head coach in an explosive post-match interview, questioning the thinking behind his tactics and hitting out at his team-mates.
His complaints mirrored those made by Lisandro Martinez the week prior. The Argentine faced no sporting penalty and started United’s next match but was reportedly hit with a fine by the club.
Fans were left wondering whether Fernandes might face a similar penalty or be stripped of the captaincy.
But Carrick kept his cards close to his chest when the question was posed ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Bournemouth.
"The most important thing for me is the team, the squad and dynamics in the squad.” he explained. "It's about the football club. I'll always do what is best for the football club. I don’t think this is the time to go into detail."
Asked whether his players’ repeated outbursts were having a negative impact on the club, he added: "We need to move forward, in the right direction, for sure.
"So we need to do things that enable us to do that, so it's pretty clear."
Fernandes’ house was burgled while United were in Como, and Carrick confirmed the club are doing what they can to support him and his family through a difficult period.
"It's an awful thing to hear about and to go through. We're obviously doing a lot of work to support Bruno and his family,” he added.
"Thankfully, they weren't directly affected, even though it's an awful situation. I'm not playing it down in any way. We're doing everything to support him."
