Wales star signs new deal

Wales wing Ellis Mee has signed a new contract with the Scarlets.

The 23-year-old has made 43 appearances for the club since joining from Nottingham in 2024, scoring 11 times. He's also won 11 caps for Wales since making his debut against Ireland in the Six Nations last year.

“I am delighted to have resigned with the Scarlets," said Mee. "Ever since joining the club a couple of seasons ago the boys have been so welcoming which made the move so much easier for me.

“The coaching staff have been really good with growing me as a player, I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had and have learned a huge amount over the last couple of seasons. I can’t wait to see what is to come.

“With the young ambitious squad that we have here, I am really looking forward to seeing what we can build in the coming seasons. I really think we’ve got something special in this group of lads and there's a real belief in what we're trying to build together.”

Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies added: “We're absolutely delighted that Ellis has committed his future to the Scarlets.

“He's an exciting player, a great character within the group and someone who represents the ambition and energy we're trying to build.

"He's got genuine pace, power and an ability to beat defenders. He's also strong in the air, increasingly effective in his defensive work and is developing a much better understanding of how to influence games, both with and without the ball.

"When Ellis arrived from Nottingham, he had some outstanding natural attributes, but what has impressed me most is his appetite to learn, his willingness to work and the progress he's continued to make.

"Ellis's journey is also something that reflects the wider work taking place here at the Scarlets. There's a tremendous amount of effort that goes into identifying players, bringing them into our environment and helping them develop.

"Developing players who can perform at international level has always been an important part of the Scarlets' identity and our contribution to Welsh rugby and it's vital that we continue to create an environment where talented players can fulfil their potential.

"Equally important is retaining those players as they develop. We want to build a competitive Scarlets team, and that means keeping our best young talent, giving them the opportunity to grow together and creating genuine competition for places.”

Ospreys make appointment

Ospreys have announced that the region's founding chair and long-standing benefactor, Mike James, has been appointed the club's president.

The former Swansea second-row has dedicated six decades to rugby in the city - as a player, committee man and chair of the All Whites, then as a chair and benefactor of the Ospreys.

"Watching the club come back to play at St Helen's, with the city coming together behind it, has rejuvenated everyone," said James. "My contribution is a small part of that, alongside the dedicated work of many others, which is extremely gratifying.

"From my first game for the All Whites, to the Ospreys and, today, the return to St Helen's, this club has figured hugely in my life and that of my family. I thank my wife Cynthia for her support and her great patience, together with my sons and their wives, my grandchildren and my great-grandchildren.

"The success of the owners and the current group of management, coaches and players makes me very proud, as do the Board, our advisers, our employees and our supporters.

"It is an honour to be made President in this modern era, and to work alongside James Davies-Yandle. Helping Y11 to shape the future has been very satisfying, and I thank them and everyone for this honour."

James Davies-Yandle, Chairman and Chief Executive of Ospreys' owners Y11 Sport & Media, said: "Mike James is Swansea rugby.

"He pulled on the white jersey at St Helen's, he sat on the committee when the WRU Cup came home in 1978, he chaired the club through the hardest years of the professional era and then he put his own money and his reputation on the line to build the Ospreys into the most successful region Wales has ever produced. Very few people have given so much, for so long, and asked for so little in return.

"Whenever the Ospreys have needed someone to stand up for the region, Mike has done it, at real personal cost and with total commitment. When the Y11 team needed wise counsel on arriving in Swansea, he gave it freely. His loyalty to the All Whites and to the region is absolute, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the Presidency of the Ospreys."

England star set to miss out

Uncapped hooker Kepu Tuipulotu has emerged as a doubt for England's autumn campaign after picking up a knee injury in training this week.

The 21-year-old was tipped to make his Test bow next month in the Nations Championship. The Bath player was born in Wales and had previously been invited to train with the senior side when Warren Gatland was in charge.

However, despite the fact his sister Sisilia plays for Wales, Tuipulotu opted to focus on England a while ago.

He was named in Steve Borthwick's 36-man training squad earlier this week, only to suffer an injurying during the training camp, according to BBC Sport.

As such, it is expected he will miss out on the England squad for the Nations Championship - robbing him of the chance to make his international debut.
