Hull KR full-back Arthur Mourgue has found himself at the centre of a dramatic Rugby League World Cup finish between France and Lebanon.
Mourgue went from hero to zero on the biggest stage, producing one of the most extraordinary sequences of events in recent international rugby league history.
Having gone into the clash in Sydney as huge outsiders, France came agonisingly close to claiming their first win of the tournament Down Under, only for their hopes to unravel in spectacular fashion.
A penalty from Lebanon's Alex Conti gave his side a 20-18 lead with just five minutes remaining, adding to his earlier try and further scores from Michael Gabrael and Tony Francis.
However, Mourgue produced a remarkable 40-metre drop-goal to send the contest into golden point extra time.
Then came another extraordinary twist, as Cesar Rouge appeared to have kicked the winner, sparking wild celebrations among the French players and coaching staff on the field.
But the celebrations were short-lived. Referee Liam Moore requested a formal review and subsequently ruled out the drop-goal because of an infringement involving a blocker.
On the half-time hooter in extra time, Lebanon were awarded a penalty, but Conti missed from long range.
However, Mourgue's moment of madness proved costly. Attempting a kick chase from inside his own 20-metre area, the Hull KR full-back was caught out, allowing Abbas Miski to score a dramatic winning try for Lebanon.
"What’s he done? Try to Lebanon with one of the great World Cup errors you’ll ever see," was the reaction from the lead commentator on Australia's Channel 7 coverage.
It saw Lebanon claim their first World Cup win in the third and final week of the group stages, with France going home 0-3.
