According to Football Insider, Liverpool are unlikely to pursue a January move for David Otorbi if Valencia increase the youngster’s release clause to £50 million. Sources claim the Reds remain admirers of the highly rated winger, but are unwilling to commit such a significant fee for a developing player in the middle of the season.
Reports in Spain suggest that Otorbi currently has a £30 million clause in his contract, although Valencia apparently possess the option to raise that figure to £50 million, and they’re preparing to activate that provision in an effort to protect one of their brightest prospects.
Liverpool have been closely monitoring the 19-year-old’s development after his breakthrough campaign with Valencia. Otorbi recently scored his first senior goal for the club and has become an increasingly important figure despite Valencia’s struggles this season.
The winger has also impressed internationally, representing Spain at youth level and establishing himself as one of the country’s most promising young attacking players. Liverpool’s recruitment staff are said to be keeping a close watch on his progress, but their priority for the January window is reportedly players capable of making an immediate impact.
