Brooks Koepka is currently sitting one behind Rory McIlroy when it comes to career major championship wins.
Koepka won the bulk of his majors from 2017 to 2019 when he went on an incredible run, winning four majors in just eight appearances.
Interestingly, McIlroy didn’t overtake the American’s major tally until this year, when he won his second Masters title in a row.
That win put Rory McIlroy on six major wins for his career, while Brooks Koepka has five to his name.
Scottie rarely travels outside of the United States to compete…
Koepka’s move to LIV Golf in 2022 undoubtedly halted his progress, although he did win the PGA Championship in 2023.
Who’s to say he wouldn’t have won more majors had he remained with the PGA Tour? That is all in the past now, though, and Koepka is determined to add to his already impressive major tally.
Koepka’s poor putting let him down in 2026, but he will be hoping that 2027 is the year when we see the real version of himself return.
Koepka is working extremely hard on his game during the off-season, and he’s motivated to win more majors by one of his main competitive rivals.
MORE RORY MCILROY STORIES
The 36-year-old American spoke to Dan Rapaport about a wide range of current topics in the game.
Koepka was asked whether McIlroy getting to six majors fires him up to win more.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s annoying, because I feel like I’ve let a few years of my career kind of slip by,“ the five-time major champion said.
“It motivates me, put it that way. I’m happy for him. I think he deserves it. I think he’s arguably one of the best players to ever play the game. So, you know, I don’t think he’s done it six, either.
“And it’s cool to see, but at the same time, I also just want to beat the c–p out of him, and I’m sure he feels the exact same way.
“So, it’s been enjoyable, and I think, probably, in some way, maybe, I maybe pushed him after I got five, when he was at four, and I think he’s done it. So props to him.“
That’s what you call an elite mentality from Brooks Koepka. He is clearly very motivated by the thought of catching up with Rory McIlroy in the major standings, and then overtaking him again.
It would be no surprise whatsoever to see Koepka come out and chalk off another major championship victory in 2027.
The problem Koepka has is the fact that McIlroy clearly isn’t done yet either. We could be about to see an enthralling battle between the two players over the next five years or so.
