Graham Burke hailed Shamrock Rovers’ “special” sixth Premier Division title win in seven seasons.

The Hoops are League of Ireland champions once again after Friday night’s 4-0 win against Sligo Rovers - coupled with Bohemians’ defeat to Shelbourne - gave them an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

Two goals from Adam Brennan and one each for Aaron Greene and Dylan Watts secured Rovers’ biggest league win of the season.

Burke didn’t find the net, but his nine Premier Division goals played a huge part in this season’s success.

And afterwards he said: “It’s been a great season, special to get number six.

“It’s been a bit of an up and down season. Some results we couldn’t get over the line in Europe but to get over the line in the league is special.

“It’s all part of history. It’s a sixth [title] for some of us. There are not many people who have won six titles. It’s special and something I’m really proud of.”

Burke and his teammates celebrated at the final whistle with fans, as many of the 8,000-plus in attendance raced onto the pitch.
