Aston Villa will look to continue its red-hot start to its Champions League campaign when it visits Barcelona during Tuesday's Matchday 4.
The Premier League side is one of five 3-0-0 teams in the competition and face a difficult test against the leaders of La Liga and Europe's most prolific offense at the moment. Barcelona has scored 57 goals over 14 domestic and Champions League matches this season. Raphinha has 17 of those goals, an outburst that has come since manager Hansi Flick moved him into a central striker role.
Despite Barça's start, Aston Villa are relishing the opportunity to knock off a European giant.
"Barca are favorites because of the present and what they have done over the last 10 years, but they need to confirm their favorite role," said manager Unai Emery. "The way this league stage goes, to end up finishing it in the first eight we need to avoid any kind of surprise. There will be times during the season when you walk your own path, but it needs to be clear the second part of the season is when things will be decided.
"Barcelona have six points, we have nine. We need to find out our personality and make the most of our qualities."
Manchester United has not won a match in any competition since defeating Sabah on Matchday 1 on Sept. 10. They dropped their last two Champions League matches against Atlético Madrid and Como as their nightmare season continued domestically and in Europe. How much more time will Michael Carrick have and will he make it past the upcoming international break?
"We cannot wait for the game tomorrow. That is all I am focused on," Carrick said on Monday. "What happens after, happens. Whatever direction it goes in ...
"I love being here, I love working with the players. The struggles, the challenges, that just drives you on to want even more."
Their opponents on Tuesday, Roma, are off to a strong start in Serie A sitting in third place, but are 1-1-1 in Champions League play over three matches.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich are looking to take three points after a pair of draws in the Champions League as they visit USMNT midfielderJohnny Cardoso and Atlético Madrid; Lille, one of six winless teams in the competition, will look to grab their first three points against Bodø/Glimt; Feyenoord will host Inter Milan, Slovan Bratislava, another winless side, visit LASK; and reigning back-to-back champions Paris Saint-Germain face Villarreal and USMNT defender Alex Freeman.
