There was apparently some truth to a huge Pittsburgh Steelers trade rumor from several months ago, as a new report indicates the team was receiving calls on one of their star defenders.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Dallas Cowboys were interested in trading for Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen this past spring. Fowler added that although Queen could still be available, even writing that there's a 20% chance he gets traded, the Steelers are unlikely to deal their starting linebacker while sitting at a 5-2 record.
"Rumors of a Queen trade persisted in the spring, with the Cowboys among teams that checked on his availability," Fowler wrote. He's also a 2027 free agent. But the Steelers' status as a 5-2 team likely keeps him in Pittsburgh."
Queen, who was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, signed with the Steelers on a three-year deal in 2024 free agency. He has recorded 751 tackles, 53 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, and five interceptions in 108 games, as well as being named to the Pro Bowl twice (2023, 2024) and earning Second-Team All-Pro recognition (2023).
Some were clamoring for the Steelers to trade Queen due to his inconsistent performances earlier in the 2026 season, but his recent dominance may have left Pittsburgh hesitant to part ways with the veteran linebacker. There are still a few other Steelers who could be dealt at the trade deadline, however, with the latest news, rumors, and speculation available on our live tracker.
