Chelsea had officials in attendance as Nicolo Tresoldi scored a hat-trick for Club Brugge against St. Truidense at the weekend, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Phillips verified reports from elsewhere that the German Under-21 international is on the Blues’ radar, and scouts have been keeping a watchful eye on him:
“All I can do is confirm that our sources did say that yes, Chelsea are scouting him this season, and they did watch the last game, which was yesterday [Sunday].”
“They had scouts at the game, and what a time for Chelsea scouts to be there because she scored a hat-trick.”
Reports in the Belgian media back in July first revealed that Xabi Alonso’s side were interested in the striker, but Club Brugge were not keen on selling the player at the time.
It is believed that they rejected a €35m (£30m) offer from Roma, as well as warning off other potential suitors. Their stance is unlikely to change in January.
TEAMtalk have claimed that representatives from Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle were also present for Club Brugge’s 3-2 win over St Truidense.
It is suggested that Tresoldi’s club would demand a club-record fee to be tempted into selling the player. That figure currently stands at €40m (£33m), which is the amount that Arsenal paid for Christos Tzolis in July.
For now, Chelsea are keeping a watching brief on Tresoldi. Alonso does have three other strikers at his disposal – Joao Pedro, Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha.
However, Alonso seemed reluctant to use Welbeck in the absence of Pedro against Spurs last weekend, while Emegha has been blighted by injuries since his arrival from Strasbourg last summer.
