New Rams K Brandon McManus excited about new opportunity in LA

The Los Angeles Rams are hopeful that a Super Bowl champion is the remedy to their kicking woes after signing Brandon McManus this week. The initial goal was for Harrison Mevis to lead the way, but too many misses led to his departure, while Mevis' replacement, Blake Grupe, tore his ACL in his debut last week.

Despite the wild road that got McManus to Los Angeles, he's taking it in stride. From Rams.com's Stu Jackson, McManus spoke about what the opportunity to play with the Rams means to him, while addressing the player he's replacing.

"It's exciting," said McManus. "Any chance you get to play this game that I love and have had the chance to play for a long time. I was excited to get the call to come out to do the workout yesterday, and I feel bad for Blake, obviously. He had the opportunity to come in and make a kick for the Rams, and then he got hurt, so I wish him the best in his recovery. But it was exciting to get the call to come work out for this great organization."

McManus expressed having comfort with Ethan Evans as his holder and the process of getting acclimated to the team's operation, while also saying that he's thrilled his kids will get to watch him play in the NFL one more time.

He even said the first thing his kids asked him was if he could get autographs for them.

"Just like all kids, like, can you get their autographs, the other players autographs," McManus said. "So I said, 'I'm not getting them for you. If you are here and you meet them, you can go up and ask them. But I'm not going to do your work for you.'"

The 35-year-old has been in the NFL since 2013, spending most of his career with the Denver Broncos where he won Super Bowl 50. He spent the last two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, converting 44 out of 51 field goal attempts in the regular season.
