Matheus Cunha's cheeky comment about his wife had a studio of pundits in hysterics after Manchester United's victory against Roma. The Brazilian spearheaded a comeback on the night as Michael Carrick's side won 3-2 despite being 2-0 down within 20 minutes.
Cunha netted twice in quick succession within four minutes late in the second half to seal the dramatic triumph at Old Trafford. After scoring his second, he whipped off his shirt whilst sprinting towards the home supporters in celebration. He received a yellow card, followed by a second in stoppage time, earning him a red card and leaving United a man down.
Despite this, his mood remained buoyant post-match. Cunha sat down with Jamie Carragher, Kate Scott, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry on CBS Sports and was questioned about his breathless celebration. But when quizzed on his physique, Cunha couldn't help but pay a playful ode to his other half, Gabriela.
Richards asked the United star: "You're in good shape, eh? You been going to the gym?" Taken aback, Cunha responded, "Yeah, I did. Thank you, thank you. My wife needs me to be good!"
This remark triggered huge amounts of laughter in the studio, with Carragher's bellowing laugh echoing around and Richards collapsing face-first onto the desk in fits of giggles. The latter had to breathe deeply while trying to regain his composure as Scott stepped in to continue their chat.
Cunha has been married to Gabriela since May 2024. The two met in Brazil, where Gabriela was studying law. She is a constant supporter at his games and was at Old Trafford to watch his heroics.
The striker had previously discussed at length the passion behind his celebration before this comment. He said: "I think this is too much Brazilian, no? I think I always dreamed of having this celebration, to be honest. When I went, I saw the fans.

"It was a bit tricky because it (the winning goal) was in front of the Roma fans' section. Then I don't know if it's Roma fans or our fans, and then I felt like if I jump, 'Oh my God, it will be tricky!' But yeah, I'm happy because they celebrated me and it was a very beautiful moment."
Before wrapping up the chat, Cunha discussed what lies ahead for United following their fightback. He said: "I think we need to change, no?
"After this hard moment, we tried everything and nothing more than a night like today. Champions League and with a comeback, as we did.
"I think the second half was a real Manchester United team, with all the passion, all the duels - everything you can show on the pitch. I think we need to do more and more of these kinds of things, and I hope this will be a beautiful comeback for this season."
