It has been more than three years since Mason Mount made the surprise move to join Manchester United from Chelsea, and it is fair to say the move has not gone to plan.
England star Mount completed a £40m move to Old Trafford after clocking up 195 appearances in both league and cup for the Blues. He had a hand in 70 Chelsea goals and at the time, was an England regular.
But things have not gone to plan for Mount at Old Trafford. Injuries have played a large part, but Mount has been unable to replicate the form he produced at Chelsea. On Saturday his old and current sides met.
Despite his injuries, Mount clocked up his 80th Man United outing on Saturday when he came off the bench for the final 24 minutes. But the former Blues star had little impact as Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 win.
While Mount’s career is going downhill, Morgan Rogers is going in the opposite direction. On Saturday, it was Rogers’ stunning goal that saw Chelsea take the lead, after getting Lisandro Martinez booked.

Moments later, Martinez was sent off and Chelsea went on to win 2-0. Clocking up 12 appearances, the England star has already scored six goals and laid on four assists for Chelsea since his £117m transfer.
Unfortunately for Mount, it has taken Rogers just 12 games to match Mount’s goal involvements in a Man United shirt after 80 games. Mount has managed only eight goals and two assists since he moved north.
Rogers’ form is remarkable. There were doubts over whether Rogers would be able to repay the massive £117m price tag on his shoulders, but he certainly has done. Daniel Sturridge thinks he can score more.
But with his goal against Man United – inspired by Joao Pedro – Rogers has taken his tally to 10 goals and assists and joined an elite group of three players to have managed the feat in just 12 matches or fewer.
Diego Costa reached 10 goals and assists in his first nine Blues games, Cesc Fabregas did so in 10 and Eden Hazard scored three goals and created seven more in 11 games. Rogers took a game extra to do it.
But to be almost on a par with Hazard is some going from the former Aston Villa, Man City, Bournemouth and Middlesbrough ace. Chelsea aren’t only reliant on Rogers, but they are very reliant on the attacker.
