Charles Leclerc topped the timesheets during FP2 at the United States Grand Prix, with the Ferrari driver setting the fastest lap ahead of Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen. Meanwhile, George Russell attracted the attention of the stewards following a close encounter with Leclerc at the Circuit of the Americas.

Leclerc set the benchmark with a 1:35.291, finishing 0.042 seconds ahead of Mercedes rookie Antonelli, who recorded a 1:35.333. Verstappen secured third place for Red Bull, with the Dutchman setting a 1:35.480 to finish just 0.189 seconds behind the Ferrari driver.

Lewis Hamilton took fourth in the second Ferrari, recording a 1:35.906, which left him 0.615 seconds behind his teammate. Russell completed the top five for Mercedes with a 1:36.035, just 0.129 seconds slower than Hamilton and 0.744 seconds off Leclerc's benchmark.

Behind the leading five, Liam Lawson finished sixth for Racing Bulls with a 1:36.331, placing him 1.040 seconds behind Leclerc and just 0.042 seconds ahead of Lando Norris.

The McLaren driver took seventh place after setting a 1:36.373, while teammate Oscar Piastri finished eighth with a 1:36.387. The two McLaren drivers were separated by just 0.014 seconds, with both finishing more than a second behind the leading Ferrari.

Isack Hadjar followed in ninth place, recording a 1:36.411, only 0.024 seconds behind Piastri. Oliver Bearman completed the top ten for Haas with a 1:36.536, leaving him 1.245 seconds off the fastest time.

The gaps were particularly tight throughout the top ten, with just 0.042 seconds separating Leclerc and Antonelli at the front, while only 0.125 seconds covered the drivers from Lawson in sixth to Hadjar in ninth.

Russell escapes FIA action after bizarre Leclerc incident

Away from the timesheets, Russell was involved in a tense moment with Leclerc, with the two drivers coming extremely close to making contact.

The Mercedes driver moved alongside Leclerc, with the incident resulting in the Ferrari driver being forced off the track. Despite the close proximity between the two cars, both managed to avoid a collision. The incident caught the attention of the stewards, who noted the encounter between Russell and Leclerc during the session.

However, after reviewing the incident, the stewards decided to take no further action against the Mercedes driver just a few minutes later.
