Rangers keep UEFA Youth League hopes alive with late goal

The young squad suffered a 3-2 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of their domestic champions path second-round tie.

However, Coben Fergusson's dramatic stoppage-time strike reduced the deficit, ensuring they remain in serious contention for next week's return leg in Scotland.

Rangers had the advantage of calling upon Queen's Park loanees Lewis Stewart and Aiden McCallion, as well as Alloa Athletic pair Kyle Glasgow and Max Cameron.

The visitors found themselves trailing just three minutes in when Pavlo Liusin's long-range effort deflected off Corey Ngwenya, fooling Rydnn McGuire.

Rangers failed to capitalise on several opportunities to equalise and were punished again in first-half stoppage time as Arsenii Fedorenko broke away and scored past McGuire.

The team responded after the break, with Glasgow eventually dragging Rangers back into the contest with 15 minutes remaining.

The midfielder dispossessed the Dynamo goalkeeper inside his own six-yard box before calmly slotting into the empty net.

However, Rangers' resurgence was short-lived as Yaroslav Buravtsov immediately restored Dynamo's two-goal advantage.

Facing a potentially uphill battle back in Scotland, Fergusson's timely intervention ensured they would return home with a fighting chance.

Cameron Fernie's stoppage-time effort was parried into the six-yard box, and Fergusson reacted quickest, hammering home the rebound to make it 3-2.

The late goal leaves the tie finely poised ahead of next week's decisive second leg.
