John Burke secured double win at Hereford Racecourse

Lucy the Wire delivered Burke’s first victory of the day in the two-mile mares’ handicap hurdle, where the 13/8 favourite took control after passing long-time leader Hello Sweety and pulled clear to win by nine and a half lengths.

Trained by James Owen, Lucy the Wire never looked in danger as she extended her lead comfortably, finishing ahead of runner-up Mavis Pike.

Burke’s second win came aboard Miss Kingston in the two-mile mares’ maiden hurdle.

Trained by Alastair Ralph, the 2/7 favourite justified her short odds to win by three and a half lengths from Greatful Glance.

Meanwhile, Hoarwithy trainer Tom Symonds gave local fans plenty to cheer about with a promising debut from Echo Valley in the second division of the two-mile juvenile maiden hurdle.

The 17/2 chance, ridden by Gavin Sheehan, travelled well throughout and burst through a gap on the inside before the second-last hurdle to win by five lengths.

Sheehan was riding in place of the injured Ben Poste, who took a heavy fall earlier in the day when Jetbob slipped up.

Echo Valley finished strongly to beat Akus into second.

Monday's action (October 26) began with a family success in the two-mile three-and-a-half-furlong handicap hurdle.

Gloucestershire trainer Sophie Leech saddled her daughter Roisin’s mount Inca, who delivered a convincing win.

The eight-year-old, taken over from Clare Hobson in September, had finished fourth on stable debut before winning at Huntingdon under Harry Reed.

Inca was held up early before making steady progress through the 12-runner field to lead between the final two hurdles.

The 22-year-old Roisin guided him home by four and a quarter lengths, marking the sixth win of her career.

A delighted winning trainer said: "I was really pleased to get Roisin on him and give her a nice opportunity to get on something with a good chance, so I'm delighted we had a winner for her.

"He did it nicely. He's been a revelation really.

"He seems to have turned a corner at home from when we got him, and before he looked like a weak finisher, but he seems to be seeing out his races really well.

"I think the tongue-tie must have helped him."
