Harry Brook smashed the fastest double century in ODI history as England piled on 429-4 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The England captain struck 202 off 116 balls, including 21 fours and 10 sixes, before being dismissed off the final delivery of the innings.
Brook reached his double century in just 114 balls, breaking the previous record of 117 deliveries set by India’s Shubman Gill against the West Indies last month.
The 27-year-old also became the first England batter to score an ODI double century, surpassing Ben Stokes’ previous national record of 182 not out against New Zealand in 2023.
Brook initially took 24 deliveries to reach 13 before launching a remarkable assault on Sri Lanka’s bowlers.
Joe Root contributed 69, becoming the first England batter to reach 8,000 ODI runs, while Tom Banton scored 50 and Will Jacks finished unbeaten on 66.
England’s total was also the highest ever recorded in an ODI in Pakistan, leaving Sri Lanka needing 430 to win the tri-series encounter.
