Luke Humphries stamps authority ahead of business end with fourth ProTour title of 2026 in Players Championship 33
Luke Humphries (4)

Luke Humphries is the king of Leicester time and time again. He has won his third ProTour title at the Mattioli Arena and his fourth overall of 2026 alone; no other player has won more in a venue that often hosts the Players Championship series.

Humpphries won the World Grand Prix also just last month, and he continues to dazzle ahead of a busy business end to the season, including the Grand Slam of Darts next week, and he defeated Niels Zonneveld 8-4 in the final in the penultimate ProTour of the season.

Humphries does it again!

One that saw a lot of familiar faces in the back end of the event and scores to settle ahead of Minehead, one place that Humphries compared to some of his rivals will be at as he likely heads towards signing off his ProTour campaign if he doesn't play tomorrow.

Humphries had a tough run in towards the final as he saw off Gary Anderson in the semi-finals, averaging close to 105. While he defeated Gerwyn Price before that 6-2 with a 92 average.

Humphries scoops another title.

Steve Lennon was the victim in the Last 16 and was defeated 6-2 with a 96 average for 'Cool Hand Luke'. This was after his two biggest averages of the day in the form of 109 against Tom Bissell, winning 6-0, and the same scoreline as he saw off Darius Labanauskas with a 106 average.

Archie Self was the first vanquished 6-0, albeit with a meeker 85 effort. Niels Zonneveld, on the other hand, treaded a path of seeing off mostly Dutch talents.

Michael van Gerwen, who produced the performance of the day with an 114 average, was defeated in the semi-finals as his attempt to win another ProTour leaves him one more day to fight. He lost 7-5. Dirk van Duijvenbode was defeated 6-4.

While Jeffrey de Zwaan (6-1), Justin Hood (6-4), Jack Aldridge and also Ritchie Edhouse both 6-4 saw Zonneveld move through.

In the final, won by Humphries 8-4, he started superbly. A 180 for Humphries after Zonneveld hit one earlier in the leg loomed as the former hit 41 for double 12 to go 1-0 up. A 104 from Zonneveld made it 1-1.

Zonneveld hit 59 for 3-2, with Humphries sitting waiting to pounce. Humphries was set to throw for 4-2. 80 pinned by Humphries to make it 4-2, as Zonneveld was now throwing for 4-3.

An 82 checkout for Zonneveld to make it 4-3. Humphries threw for 5-3. 106 missed by Zonneveld, and Humphries clipped double 20 for 5-3. Zonneveld missed 80, and Humphries was back for 6-3. A break for 'Cool Hand Luke'.
