The Oklahoma City Thunder made their first roster move of the 2026-27 regular season. And it's one that shouldn't be a shocker to anybody. They have waived Otega Oweh. He was on a two-way contract.
This was purely a roster mechanism move. Oweh sustained a torn Achilles tendon in OKC's preseason. So it was only a matter of time before the Thunder moved on to open up the roster spot. The 23-year-old was the No. 41 pick of the 2026 NBA draft.
It sounds like the Thunder will add Micah Peavy to Oweh's two-way spot. He was a 2025 NBA draft second-round pick. The Memphis Grizzlies waived him as part of their final roster cuts. Now, he lands in OKC.
An all-time setback for Oweh. Before he even had the chance to make his NBA debut, he was sidelined for an entire year. He will miss the entire 2026-27 season recovering from his torn Achilles tendon. Maybe the Thunder will give him a chance to re-earn a two-way spot next summer.
