Cambridge United will have to make do without the services of their captain Dom Ball for the next ‘few weeks’.
The midfielder limped off during the second half of the recent 2-1 win at Barnsley with a hamstring injury.
A subsequent scan has revealed the extent of the damage, with Ball potentially not available until the middle of next month.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s home League One encounter against Plymouth Argyle, U’s head coach Neil Harris said: “Dom isn’t going to be fit for the foreseeable, and when I say foreseeable, I’m talking about the shorter term.
“We’ve got a couple of cup games coming up (in November), whether he’s back for them, I don’t know. Realistically, we maybe wouldn’t push him for them.
“The immediate prognosis is he’s going to be out for a few weeks, whether that’s three to four weeks or slightly longer, we’ll have to see what fixtures we’ve got and when.
“We’ve got the cup games, but then there’s a potential international break depending on ourselves and Luton call-up-wise (14 November).
“It’s safe to say he’d be back available for the Luton game if it takes place, but before that, it’s a judgement call on how quickly he progresses.”
Ball has made 14 appearances across all competitions for Cambridge this season.
