Darren McCurry finished with eight points as Edendork continued their historic championship campaign with a 0-17 to 0-12 victory over Clonduff in the preliminary round of the Ulster Club Senior Football Championship at Páirc Esler.

The Tyrone champions, who claimed their first county senior title just eight days earlier, established a four-point half-time lead before moving seven clear in the second half on their way to a five-point victory.

Goalkeeper Niall Morgan also played a key role, contributing four points through two first-half two-pointers, including one from open play.

Brian McGuckin's side dominated Clonduff's kick-outs, winning 12 of the Down champions' first 17, while the Down champions also registered over 10 wides during the contest.

Clonduff, making their first provincial appearance since 2000, opened the scoring through an Arthur McConville free.

McCurry and John McLernon responded before McCurry struck the game's first two-pointer to establish a 0-4 to 0-1 lead.

Barry O'Hagan and Stephen McConville brought Clonduff within a point, only for Morgan to strike a two-pointer from open play after 14 minutes.

McCurry added another point before Eamon Brown responded, but Fiachra Nelis and a Morgan two-point free extended Edendork's lead to six.

Stephen McConville converted a two-point free with the final kick of the half to leave Clonduff trailing 0-10 to 0-6.

Arthur McConville scored within 30 seconds of the restart before Barry O'Hagan reduced the deficit to two points.

However, McCurry and Correy Bell registered quickfire points before John McLernon's clever finish restored Edendork's five-point advantage.

McCurry converted a two-point free after 43 minutes to extend the Tyrone side's lead to 0-15 to 0-8.

Clonduff battled on, with Stephen McConville and Senan Carr adding scores, but missed opportunities hampered their comeback hopes.

Edendork substitute James Fearon twice threatened to put the contest beyond doubt, with goalkeeper Aaron Sherry denying him from close range.

Clonduff reduced the deficit to four points, with Barry O'Hagan converting a late free, but McCurry responded immediately to take his tally to eight.

Patrick McLernon added Edendork's final score as the Tyrone champions held on despite Clonduff's late pressure.

The result continues a remarkable campaign for McGuckin's side, who defeated Errigal Ciarán in a Tyrone final replay to secure their first senior county championship.

Edendork will face Antrim champions St Brigid's in the Ulster quarter-finals on Sunday 8 November.
