Liverpool has recently met with Valencia to discuss Harvey Elliott's loan so far, according to reports, as the midfielder looks to break into the team for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old has struggled through the past year or so in his career, as his loan move to Aston Villa didn't go as planned, with the club avoiding playing him in games after deciding against a permanent move that would trigger after a low total of appearances.
That set up a year that the attacking midfielder may feel was wasted, as his surprise return to Liverpool in the summer offered another chance to force himself into the team's plans. However, Elliott failed to convince Andoni Iraola that he could fit in the team, with it then being decided that an exit would be best.
A loan move to Valencia followed, but he walked into a club that has struggled so far this season.
A change in manager followed just weeks after the Liverpool loanee's switch, while he was reduced to minutes from the bench with the team in the relegation zone in La Liga.
Elliott is still looking for a run of games under new boss Javier Aguirre, as the season nears the second international break before a long run of matches ahead that will take up most of the season.
With that in mind, a report from El Partit de la Una claims that Liverpool has recently met up with Valencia chiefs for an update on the attacking midfielder's progress so far this campaign.
It's claimed that an informal meeting took place, with the Spanish club still holding confidence that the player can show his quality this season, but with more expected from him in the weeks and months ahead.
It perhaps sums up the difficult nature of the loan that Elliott has right now, as he looks to make an impact on the team, but with limited time to do that in.
That said, his new head coach was recently complimentary of the star and believes that the team must get the best out of him.
Speaking via Superdeporte, Aguirre said: "I’m fortunate to be able to communicate in his language.
"He looks sharper; he’s working with a personal nutritionist. I’m delighted with his attitude; he has a lot of quality and is a Valencia player. We have to get the best out of him."
Liverpool will certainly be hoping that Elliott can turn his fortunes around, with Valencia still battling against early relegation fears in the league this season.
With tough clashes against Villarreal, Elche, and Real Madrid on the horizon, it remains to be seen if the loanee will be handed his chance to shine.
