Wednesday marked opening night for 22 different NBA teams, including the Memphis Grizzlies. This meant recent No. 3 overall pick Cameron Boozer would make his NBA debut as Memphis faced the Utah Jazz. While Boozer did struggle, he once again proved himself as a winning player.
The former Duke Blue Devil finished with only seven points on 2-for-15 shooting but did grab 11 rebounds and dish out five assists. As a result, he finished with a plus-minus of plus-32, higher than any of his teammates, including Ty Jerome, who scored 45 points. The Grizzlies cruised to a 20-point victory over the Jazz (123-103).
Having returned to play in the state of North Carolina for the Charlotte Hornets, Grayson Allen made his regular season debut with the team against Brooklyn. Allen led the Hornets in scoring, finishing with 21 points on 6-for-9 shooting off the bench, including five made 3-pointers. Even without his schoolmate Kon Knueppel, the Hornets held on to a 110-103 victory against the Nets.
Boozer's former teammate at Duke, recent second-round pick Isaiah Evans, made his NBA debut as well, with the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, the former Blue Devils sharpshooter only received two garbage time minutes against the Miami Heat in a blowout (131-106), where he recorded one rebound.
