Man Utd rocked by Ruben Amorim interest in player who could be moved out of club by agent

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro is attracting significant interest from AC Milan ahead of the January transfer window as Ruben Amorim looks to reunite with the youngster.

Yoro joined United on a £52 million deal from Lille in July 2024, and he became one of Amorim's most important players before he was sacked in January 2026 after 14 months.

The Frenchman was his third-most-used player - behind only Portuguese duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes - with the former United boss now looking to prise him away from Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim wants Jorge Mendes to assist in Leny Yoro transfer to AC Milan

Despite joining Man United as one of Europe's most promising teenagers, Yoro hasn't lived up to the hype during his two-and-a-half years at the club, with his form and potential declining.

This season, the 20-year-old has been shoehorned into a role as a right-back by Michael Carrick and, as a towering 6ft3 centre-back, has looked awkward there, particularly during the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth and 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday.

A string of poor performances in an unfamiliar role hasn't put off European giants AC Milan, who, according to Calciomercato, have placed the ball-playing defender on their January shortlist after Matteo Gabbia's long-term injury.

Yoro is joined on there by Bayern Munich's Kim-Min Jae and Sporting Lisbon's Goncalo Ignacio. Interestingly, super agent Jorge Mendes is trying to persuade Amorim to sign Lecce's Tiago Gabriel, but the former Man United manager isn't keen on signing his compatriot.

Instead, Milan want Mendes to assist in signing his client Yoro in January after Amorim made it clear that he's ‘particularly interested’ in reuniting with United's No. 15.

It is claimed that the Rossoneri could sign the French international for between €40million and €50million (£33m-£41m), which would make him one of the club's biggest ever sales.

Man Utd's stance on Leny Yoro sale

According to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, Yoro is "highly rated" at Man United, but the "problem" is Carrick finding a place for him in the starting lineup, hence why he's been deployed as a right back.

"Leny Yoro is a very good player, and he’s very highly regarded at Manchester United," Brown told Football Insider earlier this month.

"The problem is, there isn’t really a place for him in the side at the moment unless he’s going to fill in at right-back, but that’s not his favourite position, so I’m not sure it’ll be a long-term thing.

“They need him to improve, but the only way you can develop that is by playing every week, experiencing these situations and adapting, but that isn't happening at the moment.

“So there’s been talk he could leave on loan in January, and I have no doubts there will be several clubs interested in taking him if that is the case. When we’re talking about clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, it’s not like money is going to be an issue, so United can demand what they want, really."

A loan move is an avenue United could explore in January, as it would give Yoro the chance to play regular first-team football every week in his preferred position, and they don't risk losing someone whose value could skyrocket.
