Last (2025-26) season the Premier League sack race didn’t last long.
The runners had barely set off before a winner broke the finishing tape.
Nuno was the winner last season of the 2025-26 Premier League sack race, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis giving his manager the boot on 9 September 2025.
When the remaining runners set off again, it was only 18 days later when on 27 September 2025 we saw Graham Potter sacked by West Ham.
Incredibly, Marinakis then sacked Ange Postecoglou on 18 October 2025, only 39 days after he had replaced Nuno.
In total, 11 Premier League managers were sacked last season, but we are still waiting for the first one of the 2026-27 season.
So how things are looking for the 2026-27 running of this Premier League sack race now.
Having sacked three managers in total during last season, the Nottingham Forest owner isn’t favourite to get there first this time. Oliver Glasner (Forest) finds himself joint fourth favourite alongside Matthias Jaissle (Newcastle United, pictured at the top) and Regis Le Bris (Sunderland) with those laying the odds.
Third favourite is Alvaro Arbeloa (Fulham) and second fav is Pierre Sage (Palace).
However, the very hot new clear odds on favourite is Michael Carrick at Manchester United.
Man U have won none of their last seven matches (all competitions) and the latest was a 4-1 hammering by Como in the Champions League. The defeat could and should have been even heavier and the Man U goal came in added time when 4-0 down.
Manchester United have only won two of 11 matches this season and they were against Sabah from Azerbaijan and Ipswich, the latter leading at Old Trafford before Man U got an incredible run of luck to turn that game around.
To make matters worse for Michael Carrick, the disgraceful Bruno Fernandes (how on earth he was ever made Man U captain, a good effective player when he tries but as a leader…) then stabbed his manager in the back after the Como humiliation.
Bruno Fernandes when asked what had gone wrong: “It’s a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball, but sometimes when you give too much the ball to these teams they get confidence.”
Bruno Fernandes then asked specifically whether Michael Carrick had got his tactics wrong: “That’s on the manager and staff to see it, not me. Sometimes you have to be more brave under pressure, take the risk of pressing high and making them uncomfortable.”
This is your captain speaking…
