Former Florida Gators guard Walter Clayton Jr. went on a scoring surge for the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Despite the team losing 115-110, Clayton delivered the best performance of his young NBA career.
The 2025 first-round pick scored a season-high 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting. A national champion with UF in 2025, the Sebring, Florida, native put his perimeter shooting on display — an attribute that helped him earn NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors.
Clayton made four of five shots from 3-point range and was incredibly efficient overall. He also converted all four free throw attempts while adding two assists and a steal in 24 minutes off the bench.
Monday's outing marked another encouraging sign in Clayton's development. The 23-year-old signed a two-way contract with Dallas back in October. He previously scored 15 points against the Miami Heat on Oct. 26, illustrating his ability to provide instant offense off the bench.
Through his six appearances this season, Clayton is averaging 6.8 points and 2.8 assists per game.
