Dak Prescott helped the Dallas Cowboys pick up a much-needed 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, throwing for 212 yards and three touchdowns. The victory moved Dallas to 3-4, keeping the Cowboys’ heads above water in the NFC East race.
As the action unfolded at Lincoln Financial Field, Shannon Sharpe praised Dallas for committing to the running game early to take pressure off Prescott. For some reason, one fan replied to Sharpe’s post with a bold claim, arguing that the Cowboys quarterback was better than Denver Broncos legend John Elway.
Sharpe won two Super Bowls alongside Elway in Denver, so the bold comparison wasn’t going to slide without a response.
The legendary tight end wasted little time challenging the fan’s take, firing back with a blunt two-word reply: “At what?”
The fan wasn’t ready to back down, though, and tried to defend the claim by pointing to Prescott’s numbers.
“Better stats, better accuracy, better clutch numbers,” they wrote.
Sharpe didn’t respond again, but the exchange sparked a debate among fans on social media. The vast majority, of course, sided with the “Nightcap” host, questioning whether Prescott has done remotely enough to be compared with a legend like Elway.
Elway spent his entire 16-season playing career with the Broncos, establishing himself as one of the defining quarterbacks of his era. He finished with a 148-82-1 record in regular season play and went 14-8 in the playoffs.
His postseason resume remains a major part of his legacy. Elway led Denver to five Super Bowl appearances and won consecutive championships in Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII. He was also named MVP in the latter game.
Elway’s individual achievements further strengthen his case. He won the 1987 AP NFL MVP award, earned nine Pro Bowl selections, and recorded 47 fourth-quarter game-winning or game-tying drives during his career.
He also became one of the first quarterbacks in NFL history to surpass 50,000 passing yards before being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Prescott has built an impressive resume in Dallas. Through seven games in the 2026 regular season, he has thrown for 1,851 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He currently ranks No. 10 in the league with a PFN QB Impact Score of 80.2.
Across his regular-season career, Prescott has accumulated 37,840 passing yards. He has added 1,962 passing yards in the playoffs, showing that he has produced plenty of offense in the postseason as well.
However, his playoff record remains a major difference. Prescott is 2-5 in the postseason, including 0-3 in the divisional round. He has yet to reach the NFC Championship Game, let alone the Super Bowl.
Prescott still has time to add to his career totals, but Elway’s five Super Bowl appearances and two championships are evidence that there are levels to this game.
The Cowboys will now look to build on their victory over Philadelphia when they face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8.
