Here at Vital Barnsley, we rate the players following our 2 – 1 defeat away at Reading:
Slicker 5
I’m not convinced at all by this goalkeeper although I do concede he is better than what we had previously. Punches everything when he should be catching and they are poor punches. It will cost us at some point.
Kay 6
Another slightly below par performance but still the pick of the back four and the only one not to make a glaring mistake. Being a young lad who has played so many games so early in his career, I would say he is in need of a rest but how can we rest our best performing defending when we are defending so bad and losing every game?
Gale 5
Looks completely drained of confidence and a shadow of the player that began the season. You could drive a double-decker bus in the gap between him and his centre half partner Shepherd.
Shepherd 5
Missed the clearance for the first goal and positionally awful for the second. Needs to be much closer to the other centre back. Done well to fight his way back into the team but may need to improve to remain there.
Larkeche 5
Inexplicably ducked under the ball for the second goal. Gives a better balance at left back being left footed but was poor throughout in this one after impressing as a substitute in mid-week. Looked like he was running in treacle at times.
Connell 6
We had a lot more control and possession with Connell in midfield, but the gaps remain between the defence and midfield. He had an off day with his long passes which are usually such a good weapon to release Cleary. The windy conditions meant that the ball was never really on.
Kelly 6
Another good first half from Kelly who picked up where he left off in the previous games – here, there and everywhere. Faded in the second half and looked completely knackered and probably needs a rest with how much he has played and the effort he puts into every game but that is a luxury we can’t afford.
McGeehan 5
Not really suited to the number ten role but Connell and Kelly are better options deeper. A change in shape in midfield may be needed to accommodate everyone otherwise I think the captain could find himself sitting out the odd game.
Yoganathan 7
My man of the match. Scored again, played well again, this time on the right wing. Looks to be comfortable there and in the number ten position.
Cleary 5
A poor game from Cleary who looks to be lacking confidence and seems to be a target for the fans at the minute. Perhaps because they expect him to be scoring or assisting every game which is unrealistic, especially with the lack of quality around him.
Adeyemo 5
Did ok, which he has done in every game so far. Will never score while ever I have a hole in my bum.
