Devon's Abi Martin came heartbreakingly closed to a medal at the 2026 World Gymnastics Championship but missed out by the closest of margins.
Martin, in her third individual final of the championships, was phenomenal on the floor and scored 13.466 points, the exact same score as the bronze medal winner Maiana Prat of France. But the tie break – the execution score – push the 18-year-old from Paignton down into fourth place and off the podium.
Earlier in the weekend, she had finished eighth in the vault final, as well as finishing 18th in the all-around final as she couldn't add to the tally of medals she had won earlier in the year and continued her near misses in major championships.
Martin had finished fourth twice at the European Championships (as well as two seventh place finishes), as well as doing so at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but did win two silver medals and a bronze medal for Team England at the 2026 Commonwealth Games
