The UNC men's basketball program's 2027 recruiting class just gained its crown jewel and first commitment on Friday afternoon, with 5-star wing DeMarcus Henry announcing his decision on NBA Today.
Henry chose the Tar Heels over Arkansas, Louisville and Kentucky, in large part thanks to Michael Malone's final recruiting push. Look for Henry's decision to have a positive domino effect for North Carolina recruiting, with several uncommitted guys possibly wanting to team up alongside a top-rank star.
Could UNC be adding another star to its 2027 class? On Friday, DraftExpress's Jonathan Givony reported 17-year-old Serbian wing Matija Lukić will be visiting the Tar Heels next week.
North Carolina is one of seven programs Lukić will visit, along with Boston College, BYU, Duke, N.C. State, UConn and Utah. Givony reports Lukić's slate of visits will start Sunday, but not which program the young Serbian star will see first.
Lukić led his home country to a runner-up finish in the FIBA U-17 World Cup this summer, averaging 16.1 points, 4.4 rebounding and 2.4 assists per game. If Lukić commits to the Tar Heels, he'll give them insane depth at small forward for their 2027-28 season.
With Lukić planning to visit, there's now 10 recruits in UNC's 2027 recruiting class, according to TarHeel247. North Carolina also has interest in 6'7" wing AJ Williams, who plays his high school ball at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough , Ga.
The Tar Heels ended their up-and-down preseason with an 89-82 overtime win vs. Charlotte on October 27, then begin their regular season on November 2. Can North Carolina win its first game and, later next week, land the highly-regarded Lukić?
