Goals from Sam Jackson, a double from Toby Holmes and a late strike from Tor Swann secured another convincing victory after Weymouth had fallen behind in the first half.
Speaking afterwards, Wells said his side once again showed the character needed to sustain a title challenge.
"I'm really pleased with the lads today," he said.
"A couple of individual errors first half, which is really the difference, really, to be fair.
"But again, I've got great confidence as a group and we've shown how impressive we can be going forward.
"Second half, we came out and just took control of the game and never looked back from there."
Wells believes difficult midweek away fixtures can prove crucial in deciding where championships are won and lost.
"I said to the lads before we came out, there's games like tonight, you've travelled, it's not ideal conditions.
"These are the games that go to winning the league. Big performances are required on nights like this."
The manager was also pleased with how his squad coped without a number of first-team players.
Tom Bearwish, Matt Neale, Brooklyn Genesini and Kieran Douglas were all unavailable, but Wells felt those who came into the side produced strong performances.
"We want competition for places and it's always been my big thing," he said.
"It means when we are missing lads, those that come in have got to do really well.
"I thought Hutch's done really well this evening. Wes is coming back from injury as well, so it's good to see him back on the pitch.
"I'm really pleased with the group and everything we're about.
"It doesn't matter who's on the pitch. We've got the same ethos, the same attitude."
Attention now turns to Saturday's FA Trophy tie against higher-division opposition, a challenge Wells says his side will relish.
"We're really looking forward to that.
"It's a challenge that we relish and we've had good performances against teams in the league above.
"We'll go into it nice and positive and we'll be looking to continue a cup run."
