Manchester United could have important decisions to make about their defensive options as they look to build a more consistent team.
The right-back position has remained an area of interest, particularly with Noussair Mazraoui also competing for opportunities in the role.
United need players who can deliver reliably at both ends of the pitch, especially during a season in which results have increased the scrutiny on the squad.
Diogo Dalot has established himself as a regular first-team option over several seasons, but his performances have not always been consistent enough to silence criticism.
The Portuguese defender has also demonstrated his versatility by operating on either side of the defence when required.
His future could therefore become another talking point as United assess their long-term plans.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus have all made enquiries about Diogo Dalot as they consider the possibility of bringing him back to Italian football.
The report does not suggest that any of the three clubs have submitted a formal offer, but their interest could develop if Dalot’s contract situation remains unresolved.
His current Manchester United deal expires in 2028, meaning the club may eventually need to consider whether to extend his stay or entertain interest from abroad.
Milan would have an obvious advantage in any potential pursuit, having already seen what the defender can offer during his previous spell at the San Siro.
Dalot spent the 2020/21 season on loan with the Rossoneri, making 33 appearances in all competitions as Stefano Pioli’s side finished second in Serie A.
Although he did not win a trophy during that season, the experience proved significant for his development.
Reflecting on that period, Dalot described it as one of the most important years of his career, explaining that Milan helped him regain confidence and return to his best level.
His ability to cover both full-back positions also offers valuable depth, particularly with Mazraoui providing competition on the right and Patrick Dorgu among the club’s defensive options.
The reported interest remains at the enquiry stage.
However, with three major Italian clubs monitoring his situation, United may need to clarify Dalot’s long-term future before the possibility of a return to Serie A gathers momentum.
